Phenology of sapotaceae in the Madre de Dios river basin, Perú

Abstract

La fenología estudia los eventos periódicos en el ciclo biológico de la vida y cómo estos son afectados por cambios estacionales en el clima y es necesario conocer este proceso en Madre de Dios; por lo cual, el objetivo del estudio fue describir la fenología reproductiva de Sapotaceae de la cuenca del río Madre de Dios, Perú. Se evaluó la fenología mensualmente a 72 individuos agrupados en tres géneros de Sapotaceae entre enero y agosto del 2007. Los resultados obtenidos demuestran que el género Pouteria presentó uniformidad en las fenofases productivas de botón, flor y fruto verde, con intervalos entre cuatro y cinco (60 - 100 %). La fenofase de producción más baja fue para Manilkara, pero superior a Micropholis con valor de dos, siendo desuniforme para Manilkara y Micropholis. Las especies monitoreadas no presentaron cambios en el follaje. La familia Sapotaceae inicia el periodo reproductivo a fines de la estación húmeda (marzo) y fines de la estación seca (agosto). Los picos elevados para botón y flor fueron entre marzo y mayo con valores fenológicos hasta cinco; para fruto verde el pico más alto se dio entre julio (61 - 80 %). La producción de fruto maduro está por debajo del resto de fenofases con valores de hasta dos como máximo.

Phenology studies the periodic events of biological life cycles and how these are affected by seasonal changes in climate; the objective of the study was to describe the reproductive phenology of Sapotaceae from the Madre de Dios River basin, Peru. The phenology of 72 individuals was grouped in three genera of Sapotaceae and was evaluated monthly between January and August 2007. The results obtained show that the genus Pouteria presented uniformity in the productive phenophases of bud, flower, and green fruit, with intervals between four and five (60 - 100 %). The lowest production phenophase was for Manilkara, but higher than Micropholis with a value of two, being uneven for Manilkara and Micropholis. The monitored species did not show changes in foliage. The Sapotaceae family starts the reproductive period at the end of the wet season (March) and the end of the dry season (August). The highest peaks for bud and flower were between March and May with phenological values up to five. For unripe fruit, the highest peak was between July (61 - 80 %). Mature fruit production is below the rest of the phenophases with values of up to two at most.
