ABSTRACT
The present investigation has been carried out in the city of Trujillo, its objective determinates how the Diamond Grid system influences the resistance to compression in the improvement of the pavement.
The research is pure experimental type, three types of design were considered: single cell, compound cell and cell without borders (in "x"). Data from the Manual for the Design of Unpaved Roads of Low Volume of Traffic (MTC, 2008) were taken into account. With this information, a low traffic path was compared with and without the use of the system in order to appreciate the economic advantage.
Compression and deformation resistance tests were made for each type of design with and without filling and it was determined that the individual cell and composite cell specimens obtained a greater stress with filling than being tested without filling. The stress in the individual cell with filling increases with a factor of improvement of 1.58 compared to the stress without filling obtained. Additionally, the stress of the composite cell with filler increases with a factor of improvement of 4.27 compared with the effort without filler of the same type. In the case of the cell without borders (in "x") the stress with filling decreases with a turning factor of 0.43.
The cost of a road with the application of the Diamond Grid system is a mid-priced compared to the execution of a pavement at the level of affirmed and flexible pavement. The application of the Diamond Grid system shows a 19% saving in the price of a flexible pavement.
To conclude, the Diamond Grid system considerably improves the mechanical properties of the soil and its application is profitable, reducing maintenance costs.
